You can't take the sky away from me

While I was re-reading some of my earlier posts it occured to me that some of you may not be too familiar with Serenity/Firefly (For shame!) so I decided to put together a little Welcome package.
Here's the 411: Serenity is a movie based on a little show called Firefly that lasted less than one season on Fox. While it may seem that the quality of the show explains its short TV life let me assure you it is not the case as the reason it crashed in burned in TV land was because Fox never really gave it a chance. Despite being cancelled before the Christmas hiatus the show's loyal fans never gave up on it and forumed the hell out of it and supported it tremedously when it came out on DVD. Needless to say, it became a huge seller and finally found its mass audience. Universal Studios took notice of this little gem of a show and gave the go-ahead to film a full-length movie.

[Opening narration; first lines spoken in series]
Book: After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and hundreds of new Earths were terra formed and colonized. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies; a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

Some memorable quotes to wet your appetites:
Jayne: You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with until you understand who's in ruttin' command here. Now we're finishing this deal, and then maybe maybe we'll come back for those morons who got themselves caught.
***

Mal: Kaylee, what the hell's going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?
***

Jayne: Time for some thrilling heroics.
***

Mal: Can't get paid if you're dead.
Jayne: Can't get paid if you crawl away like a bitty little bug neither. I got a share of this job. Ten percent of nothin' is, let me do the math here... nothin' and a nothin', carry the nothin'...
***

Mal: You know, they tell ya to never hit a man with a closed fist but it is, on occasion, hilarious.
***

Simon: I've never shot anyone before.
Book: I was there, son. I'm fairly sure you haven't shot anyone yet.
